Chapter 66 The Witch

After all, we brought along a resurrection potion. While this potion has severe drawbacks, it\'s not meant for combat.

However, having just one can prevent an unexpected accident.

This would be a must-have for the wealthy and powerful. And, as an elite alchemist, I can make as much of this resurrection potion as I want.

I could practically rule the world with this.

I wonder how I\'ll turn down the offer if I get chosen to be a national alchemist?

As I was feeling good and arrived at the guild, a flustered receptionist hurried over to us. She looked at Liora\'s face, then rudely examined her body, only to get kicked in the stomach and knocked to the ground.

It\'s a good thing for her.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

If Liora had used her Arts, her stomach would\'ve been completely destroyed.

The receptionist, barely able to breathe, muttered:

"P-pardon me... The Master, h-he\'s…"

"? The gods say most things can be fixed with a punch."

"Hah...hah...the Master...is calling you."

"Okay."

Without paying any attention to the receptionist, Liora headed to the guild master\'s room with an expressionless face. The guild master had called Liora a model student, but if he wants to take that back, now\'s the time.

I\'ll leave a healing potion here.

Though it\'s her fault, I won\'t charge for it, out of the goodness of my heart.

We arrived at the master\'s room.

"Glad you came, Liora. I\'m sorry to say that currently, a mandatory mission has been issued to all adventurers of A-rank or higher in Mariella."

"A mandatory mission?"

"Yes. Adventurers of A-rank or higher enjoy special privileges. But, along with those benefits come certain drawbacks. That\'s the mandatory mission. It\'s a \'since we always treat you well, please do us this favor in return\' kind of system."

"The gods say: freedom means taking responsibility for oneself. I don\'t mind."

"That\'s a relief."

He handed over a parchment with the details written on it.

Having learned a bit of reading, Liora struggled to make out the words. After a while, she managed to decipher that a powerful group of bandits had recently appeared.

"They call themselves the \'Fallen Society.\'"

"Are they allies of the \'Destruction Society\'?"

"What\'s that?"

"I don\'t remember."

It seemed she only remembered the name.

The "Destruction Society" was the name of a guild that fought alongside Liora in a raid battle royale. Their playstyle was mediocre, but they were quite competent as close-range DPS.

They were similar to Lolo in that role.

The quest this time was to eliminate the bandit group known as the "Fallen Society."

Basically, it seems like we\'re allowed to wipe them out entirely.

The safety of the women they kidnapped has taken a back seat, and it seems like the priority is to eradicate them. That\'s the level of morality expected in a world like this.

Several adventurers had attempted the mission, only to be wiped out without gaining any information.

"The estimated threat level is S. If possible, I\'d like you to form a party for this mission, Liora. You don\'t have to rush as an A-rank adventurer. Take your time to prepare. Otherwise, it\'s a mission you\'ll die in. Honestly, we recommend just accepting the mission and waiting it out."

"Don\'t need that."

"An A-rank group, even veterans, challenged this and failed. Well, they were adventurers from another city, so we only know about their skills from rumors."

It\'s an incredibly strong, unknown enemy.

Because it\'s a mandatory mission, the reward is extraordinarily lavish, unlike usual.

However, according to the request, active participation isn\'t exactly encouraged. It seems the guild doesn\'t want to lose valuable A-rank adventurers.

This mandatory mission seems more like a notice to "inform upper-rank adventurers of the threat" and "if possible, take them down," with a strong suggestion to "be cautious and form a group if you\'re going to fight them."

We gained some valuable information, usually reserved for higher-ranked adventurers.

It could also be an "Independent Alliance" matter.

However, for now, Jack Jack is searching for the enemy, and Hilda and Meme are focused on retaking the first field.

It\'s a hassle, and I don\'t want to call everyone together.

"Liora, let\'s accept the quest. You can decide later whether or not to form a party."

"The gods say: I accept. I\'ll decide later whether to form a party."

The guild master nodded in approval.

She rested her chin on her interlocked fingers with an air of dignity and said,

"By the way, Liora, what\'s this \'Destruction Society\'? Is it a group our guild can join?"

"I don\'t know."

"Destruction! I like the sound of that..."

This person is a bit of an odd one.

For now, we tried selling the resurrection potion at the guild, but it didn\'t go well.

"No one sells a potion that amazing at a guild! You\'re an A-rank adventurer, so it\'s probably not a lie...is it? Is it really a resurrection potion...?"

"It\'s not a lie. Want to try it?"

Liora brandished her scythe in front of the male receptionist (the female one had run away at the sight of Liora).

The receptionist let out a shriek and furrowed his brows in distress. There\'s no way a guild could afford to buy a resurrection potion.

So, where should we sell it?

"There\'s a skilled witch in Mariella. She might buy it. What do you think?"

"Understood."

"Great. However, the guild is also interested in the resurrection potion. Please keep us updated with any developments. We\'ll offer compensation. I\'ll also contact the witch, but she\'s a bit eccentric…"

"Understood."

Liora lightly nodded and headed to the witch\'s house as instructed.

Before arriving at the house, I quickly checked the wiki for information on the witch. It seems like "witch" is a general term for someone in a production role, and they can make witch potions.

Apparently, no one really understands the difference between those and regular potions.

It sounds interesting, and I\'m looking forward to meeting her.

We walked through Mariella. The town had a typical medieval European appearance. The stone streets were well-maintained with magic, keeping everything in good condition.

There\'s no sign of the commonly depicted issue of waste left in the streets.

It\'s all likely due to magic. Maybe there\'s a skill to maintain sanitation. Well, it\'s a game world, so we shouldn\'t expect too much realism.

We grabbed some food from the noisy market stalls.

Liora elegantly took a bite out of a meat skewer. Her small teeth tore through the thick meat, but despite the abundance of juices, she didn\'t make a mess.

She\'s hunted animals and lived a slow-paced life, so she\'s used to it.

"We\'ve arrived."

"Let\'s knock."

Liora knocked on the door.

The witch\'s house didn\'t look particularly witch-like. In fact, it was so ordinary that it was hard to tell it apart from the neighboring houses.

There weren\'t even any vines growing on it.

Just as I began to doubt if this was really the witch\'s house, the door opened, and a naked girl appeared. Her blue hair was sticking up in all directions, resembling a small jungle due to her bedhead.

She had sleepy eyes.

She wiped her face with the back of her hand.

Her unfocused gaze drifted between Liora, me, and Samurai, and she mumbled:

"Die."

With a slam, the door closed with a bang.

Liora kicked the door open with force. The witch, who had been right behind the door, was knocked back by the impact.

She quickly recovered and stood up, grasping a wooden staff.

"What the hell! Attacking out of nowhere? Die! Die hard! I\'m a level-70-something B-rank adventurer! I\'ll turn you into a corpse!

Die!"

"You\'re the one who\'s going to die."

Liora, holding her scythe, faced off against the witch.

Judging by her appearance as a magic user, the witch probably couldn\'t beat Liora at this close range. Especially if Liora used the power of "Keter\'s Wing," she would be nearly impossible to kill.

With the skill "Heavenly Wheel" and the support of "Yesod\'s Wing," combined with my spirit buff boosting her HP, Liora doesn\'t die easily unless hit by a critical blow.

Meanwhile, Liora can dish out instant kills.

If the witch lacks resistance to status effects, there\'s nothing she can do.

That said…

"Liora, we\'re the ones who barged in unannounced. Though, telling us to die right away was a bit much."

"She told a god to die. Gods are beings who transcend death!"

"Indeed."

Our goal is to sell the resurrection potion.

In a way, I really do transcend death.

For now, I might go along with Liora\'s wishes. Killing the witch once and reviving her to sell the potion could work.

She might not have the [Appraisal] skill, after all.

It would be an efficient way to prove the potion\'s effects. Maybe we should kill her after all. Liora\'s instincts sometimes lead her to the truth.

Just as I was about to give the green light to kill, Samurai pulled on my sleeve, handing over the resurrection potion. She showed it to the witch.

"That! That\'s an item made from the World Tree! Where did you get it!? I also want to make potions with World Tree materials!"

It seems like the event with the witch has progressed.

While the option to kill her might have worked, taking the peaceful route seems easier. As someone who has played many games, I understand that using dirty methods usually comes with some form of backlash.

"You actually managed to find World Tree materials!" the witch says with a smile.
