Chapter 321 Rescue Operation Begins
Therefore, contact was successfully made with all 5 guards on lookout duty outside of the building.
Once Bea was able to rifle through their memories, a more detailed plan was made. Now they had knowledge of all the security measures, alarms that could be tripped, and surveillance cameras within the video.
Sketching a map of the building with all surveillance measures, alarms, and traps marked, Kain and the others noticed that in an obscure area of the wall, there was a brief blind spot—one that they chose to capitalize on.
All 3 of them discreetly made their way to the spot, and then when the guards passed by the blind spot as though fulfilling their normal duties of making the rounds, Kain quickly controlled them to strip and hand their clothes to him.
He redressed himself in their uniform, and then, making sure to keep his face slightly lowered, continued on surveilling the outside of the building as though he was the guard—using the memories obtained from Bea to act as naturally as possible.
In less than 30 seconds, the figure of the "guard" reappeared back in front of the cameras, with the guards monitoring inside none the wiser.
Over the course of 20 minutes, Serena and Lina did the same, although they were unhappy at the prospect of wearing the clothes of strange men, they did what was needed.
They selected the shortest two guards from those on duty, but even still the physique of the guards wasn\'t a great match for the 2 women. Therefore, they kept several layers of their own clothes on underneath to appear bulkier—this also helped to prevent their skin from touching the fabric of the uniforms.
They all acted as naturally as possible, communicating with one another silently by using Bea as a relay center for their messages.
Finally, at around 2 in the morning, there was a shift change after a brief break, and they rotated with the guards indoors to switch routes—seamlessly penetrating into the building.
During the process of the changeover, noticing that there were no cameras in the staff lounge, Kain had Bea infect every single guard he came across, including those about to take over touring the outside of the building—ensuring that they wouldn\'t report the corpses of the 3 guards whose bodies were hidden in the camera blind spot.
Once Kain and the others were alone in the lounge, Kain leaned against the doorframe as they were about to leave "Lina, Serena, you\'ve got the map and route assigned to the guard you\'re imitating memorized?" Continue your adventure with empire
Serena adjusted the ill-fitting guard uniform, her voice calm and measured despite her discomfort. "Every detail."
Lina also nodded nervously, this was her first mission at such a high difficulty and danger level.
"Great." Kain continued, "The guards that were just in the lounge won\'t notice anything since they\'ve been controlled, but inside, there are still higher-ranked personnel. A few are resistant to Bea. We will avoid them if possible and travel together until it\'s time to perform more broad searches of specific areas. Let\'s go." Kain doubted that Serena would need any help, especially with Balens, this statement was mostly to placate the nervous Lina.
Thankfully, all of the staff responsible for monitoring the cameras were fairly low-level, and so Bea had easily managed to control most of them during the shift change. He made sure that the ones successfully controlled selected monitors responsible for monitoring the cameras on the routes of Kain, Serena, and Lina.
They moved swiftly through the corridors, their stolen uniforms blending them in with the environment. Every time they passed another staff member, Bea also infected any they hadn\'t yet had a chance to and subtly adjusted their movements or memories to keep suspicions at bay.
The facility was a labyrinth of cold steel and glowing monitors. Rooms lined with cages held test subjects in various states of experimentation, their muffled cries and rasping breaths filtering through the metal doors.
Lina flinched as they passed by the rooms. "We\'ll come back for them," Serena reassured her, "Focus on staying unnoticed for now."
Finally, they reached the reinforced door leading to the east wing basement where the majority of the researchers, high-level guards, and "complete" experiments were being kept. Two guards stood at attention, their spiritual power radiating faintly in the air—a clear sign of their higher level.
"Hey! Who are you and why have you left your posts? Nobody else should be assigned to this location." One of the guards interrogated them.
\'Now would be the time to make the wishes, Serena\' Kain transmitted silently to her through the connection with Bea.
"Hey, you punks! I asked why you—"
Suddenly the guard felt as though his body became twice as heavy in an instant and his words cut off in shock.
They could both sense that something was wrong and moved their hands to trigger their own respective alarms.Nôv(el)B\\\\jnn
Kain and the others struck quickly. The wish for the reduced strength of any enemies they came across was only 90 minutes. Thankfully, the weakening effect wasn\'t widespread throughout the facility and only came into effect when within attack range of an enemy. Otherwise, even if they did manage to take down these guards, alarms still would have been raised.
Lina had one of her contracts, a large silk worm, create a small wave of shimmering threads that wrapped around the guards\' wrists, immobilizing them further. Her voice trembled slightly, but her resolve didn\'t waver. "They\'re pinned. Finish it quickly."
Thankfully, after their strength was reduced, they were unable to break free. Moreover, the weakening effect of the wish was all-round, meaning that Bea was able to take control of them, despite being one level lower. However, it still presented a challenge and strained her connection to the other guards she was controlling. Therefore, unfortunately, Kain was unable to use these guards to attack or access other areas of the facility. They were both immediately killed after reading their memories without even being able to summon their contracts.
Kneeling by the guards and rifling through their pockets, Kain pulled out a pair of encrypted communication devices and a ring with a faintly glowing inscription. Based on the memories of the guards, the door required 3 methods of authentication to open—a retinal scan, a handprint scan, and this ring that acted as a key.
Once Kain shared this news with the others, Lina looked on with confusion as Kain approached the 2 guards with a dagger now in his hand, before the horrifying realization of what he was about to do dawned on her.
"I think I\'m going to throw up," She mumbled while covering her mouth. Her face now a sickly pale green.
