Chapter 297: Chapter 193: Can Only Rely on Oneself Now

At this point, there was no use in beating around the bush.

"Well, you will see," David replied.

Without wasting more words, David stood up, pushed the door open, and left. Once outside the Long Beach Branch building, he immediately dialed a number.

Meanwhile, at Washington D.C. Headquarters.

With the evaluation period approaching, Deputy Director Donald was swamped with an endless list of tasks, running himself ragged.

While he was intently reviewing data from branches across the country, the vibrating phone on his desk interrupted his focus.

He picked it up and, upon seeing the incoming call was from David, answered immediately, "What\'s the matter, David?"

"Deputy Director Donald, there\'s been a complication here, and I believe it\'s necessary to report it to you and the higher-ups at headquarters. Here\'s what\'s happened..."

David detailed the situation with the GCO Corporation funds being frozen.

And after hearing his report, even Deputy Director Donald was taken aback.

GCO Corporation?

Almost 80 million in taxes in a single transaction?

How on earth did David manage that?

"Deputy Director Donald, the fact of the matter is, the Long Beach Branch is blatantly trying to prevent my taxes from being recorded. I must file a complaint about this!"

The thoughts coming through the phone snapped Donald out of his daze, darkening his expression as he responded gravely, "If your taxes are recorded, then Bellamy Hattie of their branch is finished. Of course, they don\'t want the transaction to go through. Don\'t worry, leave this to us. We will ensure justice is served!"

"Thank you, Deputy Director Donald."

After ending the call with David, Donald immediately picked up the desk phone, "Liano, you have 10 minutes to bring me the files on GCO Corporation. Also, inform the Director, the Chief Advisor... all of them, to meet in the conference room in 20 minutes!"

Setting aside the issue of the frozen funds for now, Donald was incredibly curious about the 80 million and GCO Corporation. It was only because he was on the phone earlier that he refrained from delving into the details.

Ten minutes later, Donald\'s secretary brought in the GCO Corporation files, which he began to peruse immediately.

But as he absorbed the information, Donald\'s expression gradually turned to one of bewilderment.

The files indicated that GCO was one of the top three private prison operators in the United States and even had contracts with major law enforcement agencies like the Department of Justice, FBI, DEA, among others. Its network was indeed extraordinary.

The question then arose: by what means did David manage to get the company to willingly surrender the 80 million?

After much thought, Donald still could not understand the specifics, but he felt increasingly certain about one decision he had made.

That was to assign the selected candidate from the "Making a Deity" project to the Los Angeles West Suburb Branch.

If David truly won the election, once he officially began his tenure at the Western Suburbs Branch, not even the eight major film companies might be a match for him.

After all, if GCO Corporation, with its complex networks, was compelled to cough up 80 million, how much better could those film companies fare?

"Knock, knock, knock..."

The sound of knocking roused Donald from his thoughts. He had no choice but to call out, "Come in."

"Mr. Donald, the Director and Chief Advisor have already gone to the conference room," someone said.

"Understood."

Donald immediately stood up and headed toward the conference room.

Upon arriving, he saw that, apart from Obadiah and Welton Heng, all the other top officials from the IRS were present.

It was evident that many of the upper-level officials were perplexed by Donald\'s sudden call for an emergency meeting.

However, some individuals, like Welton Heng and Rohan, appeared as usual as if they had some prior knowledge.

"Deputy Director Donald, what\'s so urgent that you had to gather us here?" Obadiah was the first to speak up, knowing well that unless it was a major issue, his deputy director would never call a full meeting of higher-ups so urgently.

"Yes, Director," Donald affirmed.

After taking his seat and scanning the room, Donald began, "Our \'Making a Deity\' project encourages fair competition among us, but just now, I received a complaint from David of the Lake District Sub-Bureau Branch. He claims that his tax funds were maliciously frozen by the Los Angeles Long Beach Branch. I believe this matter is of a very severe nature!"

"What, the Long Beach Branch froze David\'s tax funds?"

"Hold on... Isn\'t David\'s jurisdiction in Las Vegas? How could the Long Beach Branch freeze his funds?"

"The Long Beach Branch maliciously froze David\'s funds, really?"

Upon hearing Donald\'s words, the room immediately erupted in astonishment, and many uninformed high-level officials were baffled.

Logically speaking, David\'s jurisdiction was in Las Vegas, or at the broadest, the state of Nevada.

And Los Angeles is in California State, which is utterly unrelated. How could there have been any conflict or malicious freezing of funds?

Obadiah was just as confounded and asked, "What\'s going on, Deputy Director Donald? Explain clearly!"
