Chapter 91 - 91: Crazy Upgrading

“Are you trying to kill us?” The Guardian Angel suddenly broke into a sweat.

“Lei, equip your shield and draw the monsters together with Fruity.” Li Yao ran to the rear of the two melee professions with two consecutive Shadow Rolls. “Understood.” Zhao Lei quickly equipped a shield and a one-handed sword.

Avenger’s Shield!

A golden shield was thrown out by Fruity Knight, bouncing incessantly amongst the monsters.

-85-86-86-84-88-87-89…

Digits of damage rose from the monsters’ heads one by one, attracting the spiders’ hostility towards her and prompting them to charge at her.

Consecration!

A holy flame erupted around Fruity Knight, searing the ground. Although the damage wasn’t high, it was a crowd-control skill that every defensive knight must learn and master.

“Lei, do it.” Li Yao ordered, as there were still some spiders not being aggroed.

Shockwave!

Zhao Lei stomped on the ground, creating a fan-shaped shockwave that cause wide-area damage.

Cleave!

-56-52-54-55-58-56-54…

It was area-of-effect damage. Zhao Lei clearly was a notch below Fruity Knight.

While the two MTS held aggro of dozen of spiders, Guardian Angel began to cast slow recovery healing spells on the two of them.

She then started to heal the two players continuously.

Li Yao stepped forward, finding a good angle, and fired a shot from his firearm into the sky.

Arrow Rain!

-245-256-274-285-254-257-259…

Scattershot!

-266-257-260-270-259-269-248-267…

Scattershot!

Scattershot!

“What kind of monster are you?”

The other three individuals exclaimed simultaneously, looking at dozens of monster bodies scattered around.

Li Yao chuckled. Given the equipment he currently possessed, coupled with various attribute bonuses, such damage wasn’t surprising at all.

“Don’t be surprised, and let’s pick up the equipment. Moreover, these are just the weakest spiders and have a small health pool. The ones inside are all level eight and nine spiders with around a thousand HP, it won’t be so easy to deal with them.” Li Yao frowned, adding, “What do you think about leveling up this way?

“It’s so much faster compared to leveling up outside.” Fruity Knight remained icy cold.

“If only it could be this fast all the time.” Guardian Angel sighed.

“This is the most gratifying leveling up experience I have had since I started playing this game.” Zhao Lei was immensely satisfied as well.

Seeing the others busily picking up the loot, Li Yao shook his head and said, “Your expectations are too low. Leveling up in this way is less rewarding than slaying elite mobs on my own.”

Guardian Angel was taken aback and exclaimed, “You’re really a monster. You’ve been leveling up through killing elites?”

“Hehe. You are not aware that my bro has slain a good number of bosses. Now my bro has taken quite a couple of first boss kills.” Zhao Lei responded with laughter.

“No wonder why your name sounds familiar.” Guardian Angel suddenly realised, giving a thumbs up to Li Yao, “No wonder you have purple equipment, so that’s why.”

“Do you think this isn’t enough? But there’re too many mobs. I’m afraid I can’t hold the aggro, and it would put too much pressure on the healer.” Fruity Knight frowned.

“But leveling up in this way is meaningless. I don’t know how many days it would take to reach level 10.” Li Yao frowned, but then relaxed, “Here, let me lend you some items. You would be able to become much stronger. Then, you should be able to aggro more monsters. Take a look at this contract first.”

Li Yao took out a bunch of captured equipment and drafted a contract. Whatever item they borrowed would be recorded, and Li Yao had the right to retrieve it at any time. This kind of contract was fairly enforced by the system and would not involve any mistakes.

Looking at the dozens of blue and green equipment brought out by Li Yao, Fruits Knight and Guardian Angel suddenly felt like stones, bloody hell, you’re like a one-man army who’s looted a guild warehouse.

“How do you have so many great pieces of equipment? You have to let me in on your secret.” Angel’s Guardian was drooling.

“It’s simple. Join a large guild and kill their elite team two or three times. That’s how you get this much equipment.” Li Yao said nonchalantly. “I’m completely awestruck by this,” said Angel’s Guardian who was at a loss for words. Today, he seemed to have encountered an unusual creature.

Fruit Knight was shocked but did not hesitate to take the offered equipment. After all, it was a loan. There was no pressure, after all, it was for leveling up together.

Soon, both of them swapped their previous equipment for the superior ones they picked and the pact was formed.

“My abilities have increased by about a third,” Fruit Knight shared while observing his stats.

“Same for me,” noted Guardian Angel.

“Well, I’ll be attracting a lot of monsters later. You two melee fighters stand at the corner, it’s perfect for killing monsters here,” said Li Yao while he headed off. He added just before rounding the corner, “Don’t hold back whoever is on the elite mission. Give it your all, otherwise, don’t blame me if you end up getting killed.”

Li Yao delved deeper into the cave. Although this place offered great experience points, his Fire Hawk could not fly in the cave due to cramped space. Furthermore, its wings could not be unfurled, which greatly reduced its agility, leaving it to be passively beaten. If it was possible to use techniques like Falcon’s Dive and Feather Fire Scattershot, this would not have been such a hassle.

Unfortunately, the Silverpine Forest could not offer a more suitable place for fast leveling.

Traveling a little deeper into the cave, he spotted spider eggs all around him, packed tightly in an eerie manner.

Li Yao took a deep breath and used Scattershot.

His magical arrows seemed to fill up the entire cave, shattering at least 200 spider eggs. The baby spiders soon began to crawl out of them.

Li Yao used Shadow Roll twice consecutively, followed by another Scattershot attack. In an instant, over a hundred more spider eggs lay smashed.

He jumped back and fired another Scattershot.

Over two hundred more eggs were shattered, and at this point, the entire cave corridor was filled with innumerable baby spiders – easily about eight hundred spiders – all rushing towards Li Yao.

Li Yao quickly turned around and ran, soon reaching the corner where the two melee fighters were.

Zhao Lei craned his neck in curiosity to see the beasts around the corner, and his face turned pale.

Seeing Zhao Lei’s complexion, Fruit Knight stepped forth and had his share of fear. No longer able to maintain his composure, he shouted, “You’re crazy. You’re absolutely crazy.”

“How many beasts did you draw here, enough to scare them like this?” Guardian Angel, who was not able to see what was happening on the other side of the corner, questioned inquisitively.

“Not many, probably around seven or eight hundred,” replied Li Yao nonchalantly.

“Well, that’s not so bad, seven or eight…what? Seven or eight hundred,”

Guardian Angel began shaking, “Damn you! Can’t we just run away?”

“It’s too late for that!” shouted Fruit Knight, “We gotta hold the line!”

Holding the Line: Blocking effect increased by 30%.

A faint, golden light engulfed Fruit Knight.

Devotion!

“Defensive Stance!” shouted Zhao Lei followed by, “Shockwave!”

Both the Main Tanks raised their shields, blocking the passageway.

There was now a large crowd of spiders at the corner, but the spiders coming around the corner were held back by the two Main Tanks. The spiders behind them were also blocked by the ones in front.

“Heal, heal, what are you dazed for?” yelled Li Yao after unleashing Arrow Rain and realizing Guardian Angel was zoning out.

“Oh, right,” said Guardian Angel, snapping back to reality, and quickly began to heal.

Li Yao also continued dispersing his shots. Because of the corner in the passage, the group was not facing a significantly larger wave of monsters this time, only about a third more. Although the pressure was greatly increased, they could handle it given their attribute upgrades.

Fruit Knight was surprisingly handling an elite mission as well, and had elite skills, indicating minimal risk. No one dared slacken, however. Whenever some spiders died, a fresh wave from behind would replace them, making it seem like an endless herd. This was a serious test of endurance and tactics.

But leveling up like this was indeed exhilarating. The speed was phenomenal. “Lei, this won’t work. The healer can’t keep up. Pay attention to your monster aggro and defense. Also, your positioning is wrong,” remarked Li Yao, noting that Zhao Lei’s health was always below 50%, not being replenished much…

“It is so crowded, how do I reposition?” Zhao Lei looked baffled.

As I was writing this chapter, the vote count crossed the halfway mark to 1000, missing 500 more for an extra release.
