Chapter 63: Feng Arts vs. Shizi High's Practice Game (5)
Jinping frowned in confusion.
"Kai?" he couldn\'t help but ask. "He\'s not even on the team."
Zeren, too, looked visibly upset since Lina had a huge smile on her face just as Yuze announced that Kai was going to be their Power Forward for the game.
"This is a practice game," Yuze remarked. "I can have someone from the second-string team play if I want to. Besides, there is no other player on the team that resembles Shang apart from him."
"He\'s even bigger than Shang," Jet muttered.
Yuze ignored their murmurs and looked Kai straight into his eyes.
"Are you up for the challenge?" he asked.
Kai smirked as he stood, shaking his arms to get rid of any nervousness in his body.
"Of course," Kai responded as if he had been waiting for this his entire life.
"Good," Yuze said.
At first, Yuze didn\'t want to choose Kai. However, as he said, Kai was the only person who resembled Shang\'s body build in this room. Moreover, seeing Kai practice after training hours somehow compelled him to do so.
Just then, they heard the sound of the buzzer from outside of the room.
"It\'s time," Yuze said.
"I\'m not expecting you guys to be on the same level as them," he continued.
"However, I just want us to deliver some good news to Shang a little later."
The members nodded in agreement before they followed Yuze out of the door.
As the Shizi team returned to the bench, the crowd continued to speculate who would replace Shang in their team.
"I think they\'re doomed. As much as Shang didn\'t contribute much to the points, he was a good defender."
"Who\'s going to play for him then? Jet?"
"Jet\'s too weak to fill the gap that Shang had left."
The Feng Foxes, too, couldn\'t help but wonder about Shizi High\'s line-up for the third quarter.
"I\'ll sit this one out, coach," Shilei said, planting his butt on the bench. "I feel pretty bad that they lost one of their starting players."
"That\'s alright," their coach said. "Nuan, enter instead of Shilei."
"Yes, coach," the player with a similar build as Shilei said.
Meanwhile, Chunlei and Yiming still haven\'t taken their eyes away from Shizi High.
They watched in anticipation as Yuze led his players to the center.
Chunlei and Yiming turned to each other in surprise when they saw who was at the very end of the line.
"Guo," Yiming muttered. "Isn\'t that the guy who cursed just now?"
Chunlei chuckled when he remembered the incident just a few moments ago.
"He is. I thought he was in the second-string team," he said.
Peng Yang and his \'model\' team were also baffled.
"What is he doing there?" Peng Yang asked, his jaw clenching in frustration. He felt that it was ridiculous that a second-string player would have the opportunity to play with their official players.
Now that Kai was standing and was closer to their bench, Yiming looked at him more intently. He raised his eyebrows in surprise at the size of his body. He definitely wasn\'t as huge as Bocheng or as tall as Yuze; however, he had a \'strong\' vibe to him.
It seemed like his muscles were the ones you got from manual labor and not from the gym. Moreover, the scars that painted his body made the spectators even more curious about his identity.
As Feng Arts was located in the \'richer\' part of the town, not a lot of people recognized who Kai Guo was. Thus, the students watching from the bleachers also questioned Kai\'s identity.
"That guy\'s height—it isn\'t so bad, right?"
"What year is he in? He looks like a third-year student just based on his looks alone."
"I don\'t think he\'s part of the team, though. He was sitting with the second-string players of Shizi High just now."
"Wasn\'t he the one who beat Peng Yang and his team in that league at Richgate?"
"That doesn\'t mean a lot, though. Peng Yang\'s team had always been trashy.
The resounding whistle signaled the start of the third quarter, and as the game began in earnest, Kai found himself with the ball unexpectedly landing in his hands.
"You need to shoot for Shang," Yuze said.

Kai pursed his lips before walking over to the free-throw line. The audience was still murmuring among themselves, speculating what kind of skills the tall, unknown player had to contribute to the game.
"Shit, shit, shit," he cursed under his breath.
Bocheng, who was right next to him, heard what he was saying.
\'Dang, this new kid really likes to curse, huh?\' he thought.
Meanwhile, Kai felt like his heart was going to burst out of his chest at any given second. In truth, as much as he wanted to play in the game, he was also very nervous. Long shots like these were his weakness, and with the people\'s eyes on him, he couldn\'t help but feel even more pressured.
Nonetheless, he swallowed his nervousness and held the ball with shaking hands.
He finally released the ball from his hands; however, nerves got the better of him, and it sailed wide of the mark, earning chuckles from the crowd.
"I was a fool to expect so much from him."
"Yeah, the fact that we haven\'t seen him before means that he must be a beginner."
Yuze let out a disappointed sigh, already prepared to take the rebound since he knew that Kai would undoubtedly miss the shot.
Meanwhile, Yiming chuckled as he watched the ball bounce on the far corner of the backboard.
"Peng Yang was right," he said. "I guess we don\'t have to worry—"
However, before Yuze could even touch the ball, he already saw another hand reaching out for it. His eyebrows raised in surprise. He was sure that Bocheng was on the farther end to keep Kai in check. Did he manage to predict that Kai wouldn\'t be able to make the shot, too?
As the ball was snatched right before his eyes, Yuze descended to the ground and finally had the chance to see the individual who got the rebound.
"That was close," Kai muttered, holding the ball firmly in his hands.
The onlookers were baffled by the turn of events.
"Did he just rebound his own missed ball?" Chunlei absent-mindedly asked.
